Dental Crowns
Correct Decay, Cracks, and Discoloration
Over time, teeth weaken and become susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, and discoloration. When this happens, a crown may be necessary to prevent further problems and restore your smile. Crowns are normally made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold. Most patients prefer porcelain crowns because they can be matched to the natural shade of your teeth.
Installing a crown takes 2-3 visits. First, the tooth has to be reshaped to fit the crown. Then a mold is taken and sent to a dental lab, which will use it to construct the final crown. A temporary crown will be placed over the tooth until the permanent one is ready. When the final crown is placed, you will be able to look in the mirror and see your old smile again.
Crowns are extremely durable and usually last 10-15 years. They should be cared for like any other tooth, with regular flossing and brushing. They are also resistant to stains, so you can be confident your brilliant smile will never fade.
